Today I have officially walked 500 consecutive days, and that’s a huge milestone for me. What started as a 90-day commitment turned into 500 days of building a healthier life. A strong habit was formed, discipline was built, and excuses had to go. There were days I didn’t want to leave the comfort of my heated throw, but walked anyway. The weather was moody at times, but the forecast didn’t become my excuse. I was on a mission to stay consistent, and that's exactly what I did.
Five hundred days didn’t happen overnight. It happened one day at a time, and I chose to keep going. It all started with one goal.
Going beyond feelings taught me not to rely on them, but instead to recognize them for what they are. Many wonderful opportunities are waiting to be explored when we remove the 'I don’t feel like it.' Feelings are temporary. You don't have to be led by your feelings if you learn to surrender them to the Lord. Discipline gives you a place to stand when feelings have faded. Hebrews 12:11 reminds us that discipline may not feel pleasant in the moment, but over time it produces something more valuable.
WALKING IS MORE THAN MOVEMENT
Walking through every season has taught me to be present in the moment. Spending quiet time with the Lord is one of the greatest gifts of this journey. It made me pay closer attention to the changes that spring, summer, fall, and winter had to offer. I've noticed a lot of things I probably would’ve missed. Observing what God created out of His love for us is a privilege. Seeing the awe-inspiring trees, hearing the birds chirp, and noticing even the smallest details of nature has given me a greater appreciation for His grace. Walking is more than movement; it gives me peace, confidence, boldness, curiosity, and most of all gratitude.
WALKING TURNED INTO HIKING
Walking opened the door to hiking. What began in the neighborhood streets, area parks, and on greenways eventually led to mountains, waterfalls, and trails. Walking in South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia expanded my reach and sense of adventure. Hiking required more preparation, intention, and skill, but it showed me how much stronger and more adventurous I had become.
Sometimes the first step leads you further than you ever imagined. If you can start today, start. Maybe walk for five minutes and allow consistency to do its work. One walk becomes another. A decision becomes a habit. A habit becomes a new way to live. And one day, you realize that showing up for yourself changed your life.
This walking journey reflects what I believe: wellness is more than what we eat or drink. It's the way we live, move, rest, think, and care for the body God has given us. Juicing, healthy eating, movement, and prayer are the four principles that guide my wellness journey. I’ve learned that living in God’s will is better than living life my way.
Walk it out.
